ながらくオールデンの黒コードバンの手入れで悩んでおり、、何かというと、Vチップの黒が一生懸命磨くのですがどうも、右だけ光って、左はいまいちマットなまんまなんですね。。。
使っているのは、純正のクリームと、キウイのワックスでした。
雑誌等の情報を参考に自己流で30分、1時間と磨いてもやっぱりダメ。。
こりゃどうにもならんわ。と思い、遂に意を決して、伝説の男のところに昨日は相談に行ってきました。
私の会社は赤坂にあるので、目と鼻の先にホテルオークラがあるので
すが、こちらのシューシャイン（靴磨き）サービスのオーナー兼マイスターの通称源さんです。
源さんは、ベルルッティの「靴磨きの集い」の先生でもあり、小泉元首相を初めとする政財界人がお得意さん、果ては、オードリーヘップバーンから、マイケルジャクソンまでその腕に感激したという伝説の男。
数年前からメディアにもよく登場するので、もちろん靴好きの中でもご存知の方は多いはず。
でも、忙しいらしく・・・いっつも行っても居ない。。
行ってみると分かるんですがが、源さんは普通の客が来るまで待っている靴磨きではなくて、お得意さんがみーんな靴を紙袋や、ダンボールに入れて、持ってくる。果ては世界中から送ってくるらしい。
今日行ったら、「一年で一番いそがしーんだよなぁ。。閉めようと思ったけど、息苦しいから丁度さっき開けたら、おにーさん来ちゃった。。」と、かなりお疲れモード。。
それはそのはず、作業場の中は、高級靴の山山山。。すげー数。
「明日も仕事だよなぁ～100足以上たまっちゃって、、、」
と伸びをしながら言う源さんだが、決してイヤな感じには聞こえず、
ほんとにマイッタなぁ。。という感じ。
待つこと20分ほど、、「早く座りな～」と促されて椅子に座って、
源さんの磨き開始、、、、っていうか
「なにこれ～～～～～～？？？」
あれよあれよと言う間に、私のオールデンが、オイオイ、エナメルかよ！っていうくらいピカピカに光り始めた。。
しかも、すごいのが、私が手入れの仕方を聞こうと、モジモジしていると
「左だけ光らないでしょう？」と、もう完全にお見通し。
「最近流行ってるみたいだねぇ。オールデン。とってもいい靴だよ。すごく経済的な靴だと思う。20年だって履けちゃうんだから。でも手入れ次第だよ。」
とのこと。
「コツは、乾いた布でゴシゴシこすらないこと。あとは、、、にいさん、靴磨きの会のときにおいで。」
と初めて来た私にすごく声をかけてくれ、その気さくな人柄に本当に感動してしまいました。
ちょっと、話しはそれますが、
私は、ミーハーなんでいろいろなモノに興味を持っては自分なりに調べたりしながら楽しむ方なのですが、いわゆるその道のプロショップ的なお店が結構苦手でした。
苦手意識は某イギリス車に乗ってたときにエンスーな車のプロショップにどうしても世話にならないといけなかったんですが最後までなじめずｗｗそれが偏見の基になってるのかもしれませんがｗ。。
なぜか？
①お店の主人や店員が一見の相手を見下したり、無愛想。「どーせ分かってないんだろ？」的な態度だったり。
②常連がタムロしていて、まともに相手がしてもらえない。
③一見はとにかくボッタくられる。
この3種類が多かったように思います。
要するに、常連の紹介でないかぎり簡単に入り込めないんですよ。
だから、正直 源さんのお店もちょっとそういう感じだったらどうしようかなぁ。と思ってたんですが、、
忙しい時期、しかも初めて来た僕のような若造にこれほど、真摯に、そして気さくな対応をしてくれたことに感動してしまいました。
こりゃ、靴が積み上がるわけだ。。。
卓越された技術ももちろんだけど、みんな源さんのファンなんだなぁ。。
私が磨いてもらっている間にもいかにも高級そうなスーツに身を包み、エドワードグリーン？を履いた、証券マン風の40代の方が来てしまい、源さんは、
「今日はもう終わりだよ～オレが今決めた！・・・・・うそだよ。。しかたねぇなぁそこで座って待ってな。」と一声。
その方も、少年の目をして、店内にあるLASTを手に取って大人しく待っていました。
その光景はまるで駄菓子屋のよう。。
少年が、駄菓子屋に溜まって一時おっちゃんとコミュニケーションを取ってまた遊びに出て行くように、スーツに身を包んだ、オトナがここでは「源ちゃん」と一時のコミュニケーションを取ってまたそれぞれの仕事の世界に戻る。
そんな風に見えました。
「来月の靴磨きの集いに呼んでくれるように、ベルルッティに言っとくから名刺置いていきな。今日は忙しいから、その時にオールデンの手入れの仕方も教えてあげるよ。。」
嬉しすぎる言葉をもらい、店を出ました。
奥義はたぶん盗めないでしょうがｗ
